Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows
By JK Rowling
Review by Josh
Why is it that Christians seem so easily
offended by art? As a culture we've burned books,
sworn off paintings as heretical and basically fled from
any artistic expression ever since the Protestant
Reformation. This fear of all things secular
is what initially created the Christian Music
Industry from which many artists now struggle to
balance faith with creativity - one of God's greatest
gifts to his children.
That said - I'm a fan of the Harry Potter series.
I (personally) believe the magic in the stories
is a wonderful plot device and not a promotion of (very
real) witchcraft. Other great writers such as CS
Lewis and JRR Tolkein also used magic as a way to move
through an imaginary world and tell a grand story - and
that is what Harry Potter is: a GRAND story. Ms.
Rowling finishes off the series with the very best of
the series - something most series can't claim.
Without giving away any of the story - the final chapter
of the Harry Potter saga reveals the true heart of the
story - sacrificial love conquers all evil. Sound
familiar?
